Our Values

“Prayer is not what is done by us, but rather what is done by the Holy Spirit in us.”
~ Henri Nouwen

Prayer Gathering Guidelines

Our vision is to minister to the Presence of God, experience fullness from His grace, and partner with Him in His harvest. In alignment with this vision, we ask you to embrace and practice the 10 core values of our corporate prayer gatherings:

  • We value the unity of the Body of Christ; therefore, we encourage participants to not highlight theological or “faith tradition” differences but to rather celebrate our shared passion for Jesus.

  • We value praying graciously for our government leaders (wisdom, protection, etc.) while avoiding partisanship.

  • We value the theological convictions and the ethical expressions of historic Christianity; therefore, we pray in the Name of Jesus to the Triune God in alignment with the Apostles’ Creed and in agreement with God’s sanctity of life, marriage, and the dignity of all people.

  • We value God-ordained leadership and praying/worshiping in decency and order; therefore, we will have a prayer facilitator assigned who will be tasked with encouraging an atmosphere of prayer and supporting those interceding. (In some of the 72 prayer watches, the prayer facilitator will be the only intercessor present.)

  • We value spiritual protection of each person; therefore, we expect each prayer meeting participant to process any messages they want to communicate to the group or an individual unknown to them with one of the prayer facilitator and follow their counsel.

  • We value the crucial interplay between the Word and Spirit in prayer. Therefore, we utilize Scripture to fuel our petitions and we invite participants to proclaim Psalms, other Bible verses, as well as names or characteristics of God from the Scriptures in our times of praise.

  • We value the primacy of the prayer Jesus’ taught us to pray; therefore, our gatherings will typically follow the flow of the Lord’s Prayer while not being slavish but free to follow the Spirit’s leading. We often combine elements of these petitions into three overarching prayer movements — Presence, Fullness and Harvest. These models are recommended but there is freedom to pray as the Lord guides you during your watch within the 72 hours of consecration.

  • We value giving the LORD our undivided and sanctified attention; therefore, we are committed to fasting at the prayer center itself and encourage modesty in dress so as to avoid distraction from our singular and consecrated focus. If there are two intercessors only and they are unrelated and of the opposite sex, then we ask that one of them prays in the office while the other prays in the prayer room, possibly changing places at the midpoint of the watch.

  • We value the different needs, seasons, personalities, and temperaments in the people of God. Therefore, you are free to engage with the group in prayer or find a quiet space to seek the Lord more personally.

  • We value giving our best to the LORD. Therefore, we appreciate constructive feedback at the proper time and in the proper attitude. We encourage you to offer words of correction after the prayer gathering has concluded or, ideally, after you have allowed a few days to pass for prayerful reflection.

Use of Tongues in our prayer gatherings:

We thank God for all of His gifts and do not believe any of them are no longer available to His people. Tongues is such a gift. Whether or not you fully agree with us, we humbly ask that you honor our understanding and practice based on the counsel of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14 (and the preceding context of chapters 12-13).

  • The gift of tongues is not to be forbidden (14:39)

  • It should build up believers (14:12)

  • It is a gift from the Spirit, yet controllable by the speaker — volume, when to utilize, etc. (14:32)

  • As a public message it should be facilitated and in an orderly manner (14:33, 40)

    • If spoken out as a message there should be an interpretation (14:13)

    • There will be a limited number of such messages/interpretations (14:27,28)

    • “Tongues exclusive” simultaneous prayer is not encouraged (14:23). However, there may be times when the prayer facilitator encourages those gathered to pray simultaneously to the Lord and out loud (sometimes described as “Thunder Prayer" or "Acts 4 Prayer”). Often those gathered will be encouraged to pray as the Spirit leads in their mother tongues or a heavenly tongue. The difference is that tongues is not exclusively expected and that the audience is the Lord, not the community.
